Thank you for your interest in the Council Bluffs Interstate System Improvement Program and the upcoming 2015 construction season. Construction of the Council Bluffs Interstate System will be significantly increased from years prior. This will impact your travel on the interstate, as well as businesses at interchanges that are under construction.

- modernizing 18 miles of interstate;
- accommodating planned developments along the corridors;
- reducing traffic congestion, and;
- improving the visual landscape in the area.

I-29 and U.S. 275/Iowa 92 Interchange
2015 Construction & Traffic Movements

The I-29/U.S. 275/IA 92 (I-29/U.S. 275) Interchange reconstruction is scheduled to occur between 2014 and 2016. The project includes reconstruction of I-29, from 1.3 miles south of U.S. 275 to just north of the U.S. 275 ramps, and U.S. 275 from Metro Mall Drive east to Harry Langdon Boulevard including the I-29/U.S. 275 interchange in Council Bluffs.
The project will also accommodate the consolidation of railroad operations into a new common corridor west of Mosquito Creek under I-29 and IA 92.

I-80/I-29 Dual, Divided Freeway

Work will continue in 2015 on Phase 1 of the I-80/I-29 Dual, Divided Freeway. To learn more about anticipated traffic shifts occurring this summer, click on the image to the left.
I-80/I-480/West Broadway System Interchange

Future projects for the Program include construction on I-29 north of the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge to a point just west of 25th Street. Currently, the plans for this project include the I-29/I-480/West Broadway system interchange and interchanges at 41st Street, Avenue G, Ninth Avenue and 35th Street.
Two concepts are under consideration for these project improvements. Both concepts provide direct access to West Broadway from I-29 via one-way frontage roads.
